Michigan AG launches election protection webpage ahead of Aug. 4 primary

LANSING, Mich. (News 10) — With Michigan’s primary election quickly approaching, Attorney General Dana Nessel has launched a new election protection webpage.
Nessel’s office says the webpage is designed to provide voters with information on state voting laws, key deadlines and answers to frequently asked questions.

What the page includes
The webpage covers early voting periods, mail-in ballot procedures and Michigan’s current election laws. Nessel said the state’s voting rules have not changed since 2024.
“Despite recent attempts to muddy the waters ahead of this election, Michigan’s voting rules haven’t changed since 2024,” Nessel said. “To help residents cut through the noise and stay informed about early voting periods, mail-in ballots, and state election laws, my office has put together this election protection webpage.”
The site also includes a guidance letter Nessel sent to law enforcement agencies across Michigan.
The letter addresses voter rights protections, enforcement of election laws and prevention of voter intimidation. Additional resources on reporting AI-generated election misinformation, election administrator information and election security are also featured.
Key dates for the August primary
July 21–Aug. 4, 2026: New voter registrations must be completed in person
July 25–Aug. 2, 2026: Constitutionally mandated early voting period
July 31, 2026, at 5 p.m.: Deadline to request a ballot by mail
Aug. 3, 2026, at 4 p.m.: Last day to request a mail ballot in person at a local clerk’s office
Aug. 4, 2026: Primary Election Day
